Warmer Winter Bring More Bats
Guilford County, NC -- As you enjoy the warm weather, you might take a tour of your attic to see if you have any uninvited guests hanging out.
Richard Roarick, a Burlington homeowner, said he was tipped off to his news guests after finding droppings in his attic.
"It wasn't a large colony but I think I counted 14 at one time, the most I've ever seen up there," said Roarick.
The bats may be a headache for homeowners. However, the increased activity has made it a busy winter for Wildlife Specialist Tim Penhollow.
According to Penhollow, his Burlington based company called Critter Control experienced a nearly 400 percent increase in calls this winter than the last handful of winters.
Penhollow blames temperatures reaching above 55 degrees.
"That's why people are seeing more bats this year because all of the bats are not migrating or hibernating," explained Penhollow.
If you find bats in your house and have already called an expert, Penhollow said the number one thing your should do is leave them alone.
Trying to force them to leave will only make them spread throughout your house.
